This is a Hamamelis virgniana also known as common witch hazel. It is a native plant which means it can support important wildlife. It blooms in fall which raises the question of pollination. It’s an interesting story you can quickly read about here.
The Lonicera Sempervirens native honeysuckle is starting to open up. It’s growing faster than the other native varieties so far. The nectar level on this feeder is slightly lower but it could be from evaporation rather than a stealthy hummingbird. I’m hoping to see one feed soon. It is a challenge, however, in this high traffic, typically noisy, urban area.
